As we all know, colon cancer has become a common disease that many of the US people are suffering from, it has become important to get aware of this disease to combat it effectively. When it comes to the causes of colon cancer, several researches have come up with several reasons. Over ten thousand reasons have been found which are either directly or indirectly responsible for colon cancer or medically known as collateral cancer. Colon cancer has been diagnosed in five different stages and the motto of this article is to provide a sharp insight to the readers on the different colon cancer stages.
In USA, the most frequently used system for observing different stages of colorectal cancer is the AJCC or American Joint Committee on Cancer’s TNM staging arrangement.According to this staging method, patients, having colon cancer have four phases in general. Different stages refer to the different levels of severity of colon cancer. Staging is also important to observe whether the colorectal cancer has become discrete or not. If it has become discrete, it will scatter to other organs of the body. Hence, the aim of staging colon cancer is not only diagnosing the cancer, but also preventing it from spreading to the other parts of the body.
As it has been stated earlier, different colon cancer stages have different ranges of effects on the patient’s body. Based on staging, medications are also prescribed by the doctors. Here are the stages of colon cancer in details:
Stage 0 is known as colorectal cancer, while some others also call it preinvasive cancer. This is obviously the primary stage, when cancer has just been diagnosed. If someone has been found with colon cancer, at stage 0, then he or she is in the safer zone as through effective medications, patients have 90 percent chances of recovery. It has to be noted that stage 0 can be diagnosed for those only who undergo regular colon cancer screening tests.
This is also considered as the primary stage of colon cancer and thus, it is considered that the patients who are in stage 1 of colorectal cancer, can be treated without any hassles. In this stage, cancer cells are diagnosed in the inner layer of the colon.
At stage 2, cancer cells starts forming at the outer wall of the colon, but the situation stays quite under control.Still in stage 2, the lymph nodes are not formed.
Stage 3 is an important stage of colorectal cancer. It is considered as the stage which is heading towards seriousness. In this stage, lymph starts getting formed and cancer cells start spreading out.
Stage 4 is the last stage of colon cancer and of course considered as a critical stage. This stage of colon cancer is also known as Duke D stage. In this stage cancer has been noted to be spread out to different other parts of body, including liver, stomach, pancreas, etc.
